2026 Officials Training
What's New for the Deck Officials Presentation - 2026:
New Stroke & Turn Officials Training:
As a new Stroke & Turn Official, you will need to complete the following steps:
- Complete the PWSL online Stroke & Turn training, which includes instructional videos and rules content from USA Swimming.
- Complete the open-book Stroke & Turn test.
- Apprentice on deck with a veteran official during time trials and meets, as assigned by your team’s Head Official.
- Once you are comfortable working on deck and your team’s Head Official determines you are ready, you may work independently as a Stroke & Turn Official.
Training and Test:
Open the PWSL training video and the PDF slide presentation together. The video narration follows the same PDF presentation.
When the narrator instructs you to watch a linked USA Swimming video, pause the PWSL training video and open the corresponding video from the PDF presentation. After the USA Swimming video concludes, return to the PWSL training video and continue the presentation.

Summer Swim Stroke & Turn Test
NOTE: This short quiz is not intended to be a stumbling block, but rather a continuation of the learning process. Some questions are scenario-based and may seem challenging at first.
Use the references provided with each question. After selecting an answer, review the “tips” displayed beneath each response. These explanations clarify why an answer is correct or incorrect and provide additional insight into situations commonly encountered on deck.
You may take the test as many times as needed.
After completing the training and test, you will apprentice on deck with a veteran official during time trials and meets, as assigned by your team’s Head Official.
Once you are comfortable working on deck and your team’s Head Official determines you are ready, you may work independently as a Stroke & Turn Official.
